As we all know, various printing and production difficulties are often encountered in the process of sticker printing production, which makes workshop personnel very headache. In this article, we will share with you how to solve the problem of adhesive overflow on the end face of hot melt adhesive stickers?
When ordering hot melt adhesive materials, due to transportation squeezing, temperature changes, storage conditions and other reasons, or the quality of raw materials themselves, it is easy to cause adhesive leakage on the end face of materials. If this problem is not resolved in time, slitter rewinder machines will cause waste paper breakage, paper edge tearing or adhesive sticking to the machine guide rollers, rules, and glue rollers after being loaded, affecting production.
The general solution adopted by printing factories is to purchase release agents. This release agent is actually a spray silicon oil, which is a low-energy chemical solvent that reduces the viscosity of the adhesive by spraying it on the end face of the material, thereby improving the phenomenon of adhesive leakage on the end face. This silicon oil release agent is expensive and is used in large quantities for a long time, which not only increases enterprise costs, but also pollutes the environment, which is not in line with environmental protection requirements. Of course, customers with conditions can choose to return or exchange goods. Those who have no time to return or exchange goods need to solve them according to local conditions.
Since adhesive leakage on the end face of the material will cause damage to the equipment and affect machine operation, how should it be solved?
Let's start with an experiment. Stick a sticker on the lampshade of a desk lamp, and then tear it off. The remaining part will stay on the surface of the lampshade. Select hot melt adhesive and emulsion adhesive materials for testing, apply white shoe polish to the adhesive surface, let it sit for about 20 minutes, and then wipe it with a cloth. The residual label on the surface of the lampshade is completely wiped off. This shows that the oil in the shoe polish can chemically react with the adhesive of the sticker, that is, the grease in the shoe polish can fuse with the sticker, dilute the adhesive, and reduce the cohesive force. Therefore, using white shoe polish can remove the adhesive or residual label from the surface of an object.
Based on this principle, we selected a printing factory for testing. The material of this printing factory also had problems with end face adhesive leakage. We formulated an oil formula with a ratio of 80% butter and 20% machine oil, and evenly applied it to the surface with adhesive leakage. After about half an hour, the adhesive was softened and diluted, and the equipment could be started normally. It is worth noting that this method only softens the adhesive, and the adhesive still objectively exists, so cleaning work on the paper feeding route of slitter rewinder machines should also be done well.
This solution not only improves the problem of opening coil adhesion, but also improves the adhesion of softened adhesive to guide rollers and baffles, making subsequent cleaning work easier and effectively avoid material breakage. Of course, although the edge of the material is contaminated with grease, it will be removed after waste disposal and slitting, and will not affect the quality of the finished product label, so there is no need to worry about this.
